Jean-Christophe Massinon has taken on many commonplaces as subjects throughout his oeuvre. Felatio, crowds, underwear, landscapes, rolling pins, politicians, disco balls, and campfires are all to be re-discovered. Massinon paints, draws, makes prints, makes buttons, stickers, sculpts, instigates art actions, and assembles found objects. The common formal elements throughout his work tend towards the use of bold, direct colors and graphic flatness.

When viewing Jean-Louis Houel’s catalogue the theme of irregularity often comes to mind. Think of reflections in water tainted by oil. Consider the tacit knowledge which forms any self-organizing queue. Or imagine the dissonance one feels upon visualizing aural landscape as wave forms on a monitor.

Colored dots, protruding canvases, thick slabs of paint, extreme pixelation rendered with impasto, and fields of adjoining colored spots. The obvious jumping off point into Christophe Baudson’s work is to consider our experiences of his paintings as canvases. He often will craft pairs or even a series of canvases based upon formal juxtapositions of color and shape.
